The Problem: Thousands of Reported Sexual Assaults in Ubers
The Solution: My solution for this problem would be a rideshare company that only has women drivers. This idea is driven by the fact that women are more likely to be sexually assaulted, especially when they are left alone and vulnerable with a male stranger like they often are in randomly assigned Ubers. It is also guided by the fact that women are statistically less likely to sexually assault someone and are thus a safer option as drivers. Lastly, in asking around, I have found that the general consensus among my girl friends is that they feel safer being in a taxi alone when the driver is a woman. The product would center around an app that allows people to hail taxis that are only driven by women who have gone through extensive background checks before hiring.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your solution to the rideshare problem. A company with just women drivers would make female students at UF feel more comfortable. However, in my experience I have had women drivers that have made me feel uncomfortable while riding in their car. Also there may be issues in terms of equal opportunity employment laws for a company that only hires women drivers
