Why? This is probably due to clever marketing tactics that make the products seem higher quality through flattering, or even altered, photographs. It can also be unintentional in that colors and textures may naturally look different in person than in photographs.
17.) Paper Straws Falling Apart
Why? This is due to the fact that paper naturally cannot withstand being in liquids well.
18.) Lack of Online and Hybrid Class Sections for Courses Where Most Students Would Prefer Such Methods (For Example, ENC1101 and "What is the Good Life?")
Why? This is probably due to the fact UF would like to encourage students to go to in-person classes so that the buildings/halls that were once crucial to teaching in the past can continue to be used rather than go obsolete. Also, the university may deem traditional class settings to be more enriching and appropriate for certain subjects.

Why? Apple probably wanted to make more money by making it so that, by default, iPhone users are only able to use their specific type of headphones.
Why? This may be due to the fact that the ice cream machines are very often used and require great amounts of maintenance/cleaning to be run. Employees at McDonalds may not be motivated enough to keep up with such maintenance.
3.) The Taco Bell Crunch Wrap Supreme is Inconsistently Made Depending On the Location That You Visit
Why? This is most likely do to the lackluster motivation of workers at some Taco Bell branches compared to others.
Why? This is probably due to the scooter having a poorly made, cheap engine.
Why? This is most likely due to brands creating their own sizing systems to cater to those in their target markets.
6.) Free Video Games Requiring Additional Purchases to Unlock the Most Desirable Features of the Game
Why? This is likely because video game companies wish to make as much money as possible off of their products. Thus, they seize the opportunity to charge extra for additional features even after the game has been initially downloaded.
Why? Since there are so many students relying on it, it probably experiences extremely high levels of traffic that cause technical issues.
8.) iPhones Slowing Down After a Few Years of Ownership
Why? This is probably due to the batteries aging. Some also believe that it is due to Apple tampering with older models of phones in order to get their loyal customers to buy newer versions.

Why? Apple probably wanted to make money by requiring that iPhone users use their specific type of headphones.
Why? This is probably due to the fact that there is not enough overhead space left on the plane after all of the prior groups have boarded.

Why? This is due to the fact that the material is naturally sensitive to certain cleaning products and thus requires entirely different cleaning procedures in order to keep it in shape.

Why? This is probably due to the fact that Marston was designed and built prior to the age of every student having their own electronic devices that require such outlets for charging.
13.) Not Enough Parking On Campus
Why? This is probably due to the fact that the university chooses to use its most prime real estate for other purposes, such as building new halls and amenities. It also may be due to the fact that the university oversells its parking passes.
14.) Extremely High Cost of Parking In Cities
Why? This is due to the fact that cities are very populated and as such parking spots are in very high demand. Because of this, owners of parking garages/lots are able to charge more.

Why? This is probably due to the fact that they are extremely busy with orders from students, both in person and on the app.
20.) Not Enough Checkout Lines Being Open at Busy Department Stores
Why? This may be due to the fact that the stores are understaffed. It also could be due to the growing popularity of self-checkout options.
Reflection
I found coming up with this list to be surprisingly difficult. I feel as though I have many complaints about products and services on the daily, yet I struggled to recall most of them. I believe that this was due to the fact that I have never really stopped to consider why these problems occur; I would just bluntly state my dissatisfaction with my experiences as they occurred and then forget about it. I feel as though if I had put more thought into the issues and their causes, I would have had less of an issue remembering them and thus creating the list.
You hit the nail on the head with your "bugs" about iPhone. I completely agree with the no universal headphone jack, and how iPhones slow down after use forcing you to buy a new one. I understand things get worn out after use, especially something you use so frequently, but I may lean towards the idea that there is a possibility they do that on purpose.I just think something so expensive should last longer.
ReplyDeleteUgh! The annoyance with fast food!! I absolutely hate pulling up to McDonald's just for the cashier to look me straight into the eyes and tell me the machine is broken. When, we ALL know it is not broken, but may be getting cleaned or needs a little break from over use. But I never ever will understand why they continue to tell customers the machine is broken as if we have never heard that line before... it has turned into the equivalent to the cheesy stretch, reach, and arm over the shoulder move guys use on girls. Taco Bell, a hit or miss at every location honestly, but still the best fast food in the game. I really enjoyed reading your post!
ReplyDeleteI really like the layout of your blog, it is very clean and neat. Your first bug is something that is one of my personal bugs too. I think that Apple got rid of the headphone jack to make more money by forcing their ginormous amount of consumers to buy new accessories. It is very annoying that I cannot charge my phone and use wired headphones at the same time on the iPhone, almost seems like a step back. Great list!
ReplyDeleteSome of your "bugs" really hit home for me. For example, the bug about the overhead space on airplanes has irritated me so many times. There are several solutions to that problem, such as assigning a designated space for each passenger, rather than the free for all that occurs now. Airline companies who begin to pay attention to the little things such as that, will make travel much less stressful. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI really agree with bug #6. There are some features of video games that are very desirable, however, they cost money. Therefore, people who spend money have a leg up on those who don't. This can be very frustrating to people who love the game but don't want to spend money. I also really agree with bug #8. I am very fortunate to have an iPhone, and ideally I would like for it to last a while. What Apple did to older models is unacceptable, and frankly, intolerable. I understand they are trying to maximize their profit but tampering with older models is not okay.
